NewtonJoker is something that I threw together as a Newton hack for MacHack ’95. Source is included—in fact, I can only give you source, because I cannot legally distribute packages produced by the compiler I used. For those unable to compile it, you’re not missing anything. See the enclosed picture.
Why was NewtonJoker written?
It was written because Apple was giving away a Newton MessaagePad 120 to the writer of the best Newton hack. Writing NewtonJoker took 15 minutes. I spent another hour and three quarters trying to extend its functionality, and another 5 minutes to restore it to what had worked.
How does it work?
Well, if you have to ask, I’m scared. Just run it. Appreciate the joke. The “Groan” button is currently unimplemented, and since I didn’t win a Newton to continue development, it shall stay that way forever.
Thanks to everyone who gave me ideas and inspired me. Thanks to Apple and Rick Fleischman for the Newton and development book. And a final thank you to Metrowerks and Symantec—sorry for the confusion.
